I Tried a Chakra Energy Cleanse

Your energy is currency. Spend it well, Invest it wisely. -Anonymous

I think we've all had those days where were feeling low and have no energy to do absolutely anything. Right? The past couple of weeks have been a drag. I was sleeping in and then sleeping some more. Im also the type of person that gets an upset stomach when I feel stressed. I feel nauseous and start feeling it on my body. Stress tends to do that to some people. Like when you’re having an anxiety attack and you feel your heart start racing. Moments of anxiety activate our fight or flight response. It's how we're wired. This is our body’s response to acute stress that is threatening us mentally or physically to prepare us for danger. When faced with danger, we either fight or flee.

All of this coupled with negative energy is exhausting. Im the type of person that gets drained if I'm around negative people. All that being said, I decided to try a Chakra energy cleanse and this was my experience.

What is a Chakra energy cleanse. Im obviously not an expert in this field but if you haven’t heard of this before, its kind of similar to what I just talked about. According to Reshma Patel from Mindbodygreen.com, there are 7 different chakras vertically throughout our body that help regulate our mental, emotional, and physical health. These hold energy and are connected to specific parts of the body. When we have a physical problem, it also weakens our emotional behavior. If we are able to release the negative energy from areas of our body then we can help relive some of the physical symptoms in that area like tightness and stiffness. It can also help with clearing our mind and calming emotions.

"The Chakra Mind-Body Balance is a two-way street: if there are certain fears and emotions we are holding on to, we experience physical restrictions, too. If you have aches or stiffness, or certain reoccurring emotions and fears, you may find out which chakra is affected or blocked." -Reshma Patel

I had no idea what to expect with getting an energy cleanse. All I was told was to wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. When I arrived, I was taken by my practitioner to a room with a bed in the middle. It's like a massage bed. She explained the process and offered some information on what the Chakras are. I was told that during the process I may feel rapid change of temperature, I may see shapes or colors, I could get emotional to the point of crying, I may feel like I'm floating, and I may also get twitches in my body.

To begin, I laid down on my back in comfortable position and relaxed my body. Similar to when you’re going to sleep. You want to make sure to be as relaxed as possible and try to relax your mind also. I focused on my breathing but I admit it was hard to completely stop my thoughts. She began by cleansing the energy from the top of my head and some light tapping. Then moving down the rest of the energy points until she reached the bottom of my feet.

What happened next was interesting. When she was clearing my third eye chakra, I started seeing purple swirls and feeling very relaxed. As she was focusing on my throat chakra, my abdomen started to twitch. As she was focusing on my heart, I could feel a pressure pulling down on my chest. My practitioner said this was by chakra becoming unclogged. Kind of like when you unclog a drain. It will feel pressured at first but then it will open up. By the time she got to my root chakra, my shoulders were twitching. It was weird and I can't explain why these things happened. Could it be like a placebo effect? Im not sure but all I can say is that I felt relaxed and positive.

After the cleanse, my practitioner went through a reading of her findings. I'm not going to go into details because I don't remember exact words but here were some of the findings that stood out:

According to my practitioner, my heart aura is emerald green. This means that I have the heart of a healer and wanting to help others. She also mentioned that my throat chakra was blocked. This means I tend to keep a lot to myself. I don't say a lot of what I have in my mind. This is true. I am an introvert and usually keep to myself a lot of the time. Blockage in this area can cause neck and shoulder pain.

Another finding was the blockage in my solar plexus chakra which is underneath the heart. This can affect your gut, blood pressure, stomach, for example. According to the practitioner, this is the self-esteem chakra which is something I have to work on. Lastly, the root chakra which is at the base of the spine/tailbone. Imbalance in this area can affect sciatica, knee pain, constipation, etc. Emotionally, it can affect survival needs, finances, ability to provide.

All the findings connected to things that are true for me. This was an interesting and educational experience. If this is something you would want to try, I'm sure you can google or yelp and find a practitioner near you. This experience I think more than anything reminded me of the connection between our body and emotions. If my emotions are out of balance then my body is out of balance and vice versa. It inspired me to do more meditating and notice the energy around me. Thanks for reading and remember to protect your energy :)
